Transposing Instruments Support

When you play a transposing instrument like saxophone, trumpet, or other transposing instruments, it’s often difficult to find practice material suited to your instrument’s pitch. Mingus includes transposing tools built into the core of the program.

Access the global transposer and set your instrument. Apply transposition across Mingus apps: Scale Syllabus, Chord Syllabus, Intervals App, Virtual Piano, and Backing Track Sequencer.

For example, if you play Tenor Saxophone, select Bb as your transposition. When you play a C on the Virtual Piano, you’ll hear a Bb. When you hover over a chord in the Chord Syllabus or a scale in the Scale Syllabus, you’ll hear the piano notes in your instrument’s pitch.

The Backing Track Sequencer can also produce transposed sound. When you write a sequence like Dm, G7, C major and create a track, it will sound transposed to your instrument’s pitch.

Chord Detection includes a native transposing tool. After detecting the audio content of a track and printing chords on a clip, you can transpose just the printed chords to view the chord sequence as written for your instrument, while keeping the original audio unchanged.

Whether you play a transposing instrument or want to deepen your music theory and write and transpose for any instrument, Mingus provides the tools to enhance your music learning sessions
