Intervals Study App
The Intervals Study App is one of Mingus’s most powerful features. It allows you to learn and practice intervals efficiently and enjoyably.
Professional musicians understand the importance of mastering intervals—being able to play the third, fifth, seventh (or any interval) of any chord in any key over chord progressions is fundamental for improvisation and arranging.
The Mingus built-in Advanced Intervals App has everything you need to quickly and systematically master your intervals!
How it Works:
The Intervals App plays root notes on the piano, displays and plays an interval,
and you must play the corresponding note on your instrument.
Key Features:
Root Note Options:
- Play roots randomly, following a tonality, or select specific roots to practice.
- Play roots linearly or in random order within your selection.
Interval Customization:
- Select which intervals the display should show (e.g., only minor thirds, fifths, or all intervals). This is perfect for focusing on specific intervals.
- Choose ascending, descending, or random direction for intervals.
- Select when intervals appear within the bar: in sync with the root, on the second beat, third beat, fourth beat, etc. This gives you more or less time to identify and play the correct interval.
- Choose cyclic or random interval patterns, and set how many times each repeats.
Practice Modes:
- Hide and/or mute the visual display to test your ear training—you’ll need to identify the correct note by sound alone.
- Hide/mute the root for an advanced challenge—now you must identify the root from the interval itself!
- You can also use Intervals to practice note location on your instrument. By combining knowledge of your note charts with interval training, you’ll reach a higher level as a musician.
Additional Features:
- Enable a metronome and adjust the tempo for faster or slower progressions.
- Live Detection Mode: Get instant feedback! The app listens to your instrument and displays green or red indicators based on whether you’re playing the correct interval.
- Transposing Instrument Support: Trumpet players, saxophone players, and anyone tired of concert-key-only exercises—rejoice! Simply set your transposition. in the Global Transposition Tool, and the Intervals App will play transposed audio and recognize your instrument’s pitch.
- Save Presets: Intervals allows you to save and edit presets so you can return to your custom settings at any time.
